A study I'd like to see someone undertake, if they haven't already, is why people fail to report these things. Maybe it's just because of the stories that make it into the media, but it seems like the average person, put in the position of having knowledge of abuse, will not disclose it. I like to think I would do the right thing if it was me. All indications are that I'm fooling myself. Given how often it is the coverup and not the crime that ruins institutions, surely there's more to it than a simple desire to protect the institution.

As awful as this is and it will be very damaging to the SBC, thank God that the current leadership chose to reveal this and take action to correct it. Some may say that they were forced to reveal and that may or may not have some merit, but let's be very careful not to allow this to destroy the SBC.

A close British Christian friend was an abuse victim in a scandal over here - all hushed up for decades. Tragic times....

Truly disappointing to hear the SBC’s response to abuse claims. Sadly it’s not unlike the Vatican’s and other non-affiliated Christian establishment responses. The abuse on it’s own is utterly shocking, but abuse at the hands of leadership, enveloped with a cloak of deception is unimaginable.
